Go around...
Our motto is Go Around the world with us!. But we don't pack folks onto
a bus or a plane. (A boat, maybe...).
Instead, we offer trips to realms of imagination. The web is
yet another realm.
If you know where you want to go, just fire up
Google or your favorite search engine, or you might
want to try out the one of the specifically gay/lesbian/bi search engines
listed below. But if you're in the mood for a bit of adventure, take to
the cyberway and surf along through a few of the following roadside
attractions:

Let us petition for indulgence as we begin our journey. What better place to
ask than the home of those who bless so many gatherings, The
Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, Abbey of St. Joan.
-
Let's get some flashy accompaniment for our journey, eh? The Tacky Tourist
contingent in the pride parade was often preceded by the
Righteously Outrageous Twirling Corps which started years ago
at The Prom. Perhaps
demonstrating that everyone is a student of The Prom's
Lavender Valley High, there are now ROTC contingents
throughout the continent, including Toronto,
Los Angeles, San Francisco,
and others without web pages. Seattle's own original ROTC doesn't currently
have a web page, but you can find a few pictures of them in our gallery (with
more to come).
-
The cheerful attitude of Seattle's original ROTC (and some of the attitudes)
is also carried on by the cheerleaders of Cheer Seattle.
-
For guidance of a more spiritual nature (including an
illustrated lesson on bible-approved lingerie), check in with Sister Rossetta.
-
If you're looking for virtual reports of real travels, you can't do
better than our old friends, Mike and Jim, the monks of
Monk Magazine. Anyplace they visit is sure to become
exotic.
-
Surely, you've seen all the machines lined up in bars and wondered when someone
would come up with a genuinely queer pinball
machine. Artists in San Francisco got tired of waiting and made one of their own:
Go Girl!. So, this is what folks mean when
they say pinball is a drag.
-
There are a few who become inspired by Tacky Tourist Clubs parties to try on a
wholly unfamiliar image. If you're going for that blonde-bombshell look:
-
And if you become very serious about this dress-up drag stuff, you'll
want to
check out the Imperial Court
of Seattle, along with all the resources of the national
Imperial Court System.
To get fabulous advice and pointers about this (and just about any other subject) check in with
Sylvia O'Stayformore.

So, you just can't wait for our next party?

For many in the Northwest, a summer just isn't complete without a trip to
Triangle Recreation Camp, for their unique (and exclusive gay/lesbian) outdoor experience.
- A different kind of Northwest camping experience is offered each Labor Day
at Camp, "a place to connect with fellow Gay, Bisexual and Trans men; the place to shed
attitudes and dissolve boundaries." The event is presented by the volunteer
organization, Q-Squared.
- Party on the water with other boating fans who are members of the Olympic
Yacht Club, which holds monthly meetings and frequent floating rendezvous.
- If you prefer your water sports without a vessel, consider the Orca Swim Team
which offers frequent workout swims, swim meets, and even some non-water-related outings.
-
When the winter chill replaces summer's warmth, Ski Buddies
provides a full season-long calendar of trips and events for winter-sports fans.
-
Head north for a hot week in the
cold snow. You can't do better than Whistler's Annual Lesbian & Gay Ski Week.
- But Whistler, as many have discovered, provides year-round fun. A great place to find out more (and make your reservations
at the right places) is the GayWhistler.com site.
- Speaking of gay sports, find a wide-ranging collection of gay sports-related stories (and, yes, also photos)
on OutSports.com. If you've been looking for a message board where you can talk about your favorite team's
off-season moves while also mentioning that this new guy looks really hot in home whites (and if you know what
that means), then this is your place.
- If you get to the point where you care more about how you travel from place to place than you are in
where you travel, then you might want to look into a group like Bent Car Guys, which calls itself
"an energetic Car Club that brings Gay and Lesbian "CarGuys" together through automotive related events and activities." Judging from the
gallery shots on their site, they're interested in everything from new Bentleys to original Minis or Bugs to Subaru rally cars to monster trucks
at stadium shows.
- Guerrilla Masquerade Party is a group dedicated to
turning unsuspecting bars and other locations into giant costume parties -- adding more fun and frivolity into
Seattle's nightlife. And besides, basic black is boring.
- If you're looking for a party while you travel, you can keep up on what's happening just about
everywhere with circuit party and event news, reviews, information, and pictures
from JustCircuit.com.
-
Keep up to date on another huge list of parties -- not to mention profiles of guys
who attend them -- at PartyList.
- If you're looking for a cruise on one of the big tour boats, consider the wide selection of Atlantis
and RSVP cruises which can be booked through your favorite agent or look to IGoGay.com, Travel Experts
in Atlantis, RSVP Cruises
-
Find another big list of what's going on elsewhere (but not here since they ignore us)
at the
PartyFinder (by curcuitnoize.com).
-
For a different kind of party, join folks at the Rendevous for Cineoke night sponsored
by Three Dollar Bill Cinema It's a monthly kereoke to movie musical clips sponsored by the folks who present the
annual Seattle Lesbian and Gay Film Festival.
- OutInSeattle is a subscription-based portal with the usual features, including
email, chat, and profiles. Some of their features are even available without fee.
-
For those willing to travel way far away for a gay party, check out what's
planned for the annual Gay Day at Disney
World, down there in the opposite corner of the country.
- Burning Man is a label-less creature, but there are
always significant queer pockets among those enjoying the desert dust. Find them. Enjoy them. Be fabulous!
- Forget about the catholic Mardi Gras (or, perhaps, wait until you've recovered from it)
and head to New Orleans in steamy August for a queer week of
Southern Decadence in the French Quarter.
-
If you're planning real-world travel, you should check out the online
Damron Guide guide before you go.
-
A collection of local links, designed to be especially helpful to Seattle
visitors is provided by the gay-friendly agents at
Capitol Hill Travel. (And who, I ask you, doesn't appreciate
a good gay-friendly agent?)
If you think our own rumor machine just isn't
good enough and you want news -- real news, then you're in the right place. The
web has news in abundance.
You want lists? Oh, boy, does the web ever sport lists and more
lists:
-
Our own list of beneficiaries
supplies a wealth of links to local organizations.
-
A superb resource for those who live across the Sound is provided by
OutKitsap. It includes an events calendar and extensive
resource guide. The beautifully-designed site is worth a visit even if you
don't live there.
-
On this side of the bay, the Seattle
LGBT Community Center
provides a newsletter, information about Center activities, and resource
listings.
- There is, apparently, nothing similarly official for queer Bellingham, but that may be just
as well since this guide to gay Bellingham
is a better resource than many official web-publications.
- Get updates on the planning process and dates of the this year's Pride
events.
-
The most comprehensive list of Seattle-area lesbigay businesses and
organizations is provided by GSBA,
the folks who also print the most comprehensive local list.
-
Another impressive list of businesses and organizations -- this one national
and international in scope --is offered by the Pride
Community Business Guide.
-
An extensive list of
LGBT organizations is maintained (and superbly organized)
by UW Library's Alvin Fritz.
- A varied selection
of links to Seattle gay businesses (including clubs) and groups
is maintained by the 1 in 10 Club of Bastyr College.
-
Timberline offers online information including a
schedule, directions, a menu, and more information about their large
venue.
Lesbigay search engines are an
alternative to the big searchers. Their advantage over the big engines is that
their lists are restricted to lesbian/gay/bi/trans-friendly sites, but they
might also be missing some sites that make it into the databases of the big
engines.
SpiderGay,
GayCrawler, QueerSeek, and
GayZoo work
most like the big search sites since they capture and index the full text of
the web pages in their directories. Others, like
GayInsider,
Gayscape, and
PrideLinks, and GayToZ are directories that offer searches of the descriptive text supplied for each
listed site. OutDirect is a pure directory without
a search facility. Find a directory site with a wide-ranging collection at gaydemon - gay directory and search
engine
A number of portal sites compete to be your home page. In addition to most of the news sites and search
engines listed above, one can choose from dozens of sites. MyGayWeb.com seems
to focus on travel and entertainment, with an interesting daily feature focusing on a gay bar somewhere in America and some intriguing shopping choices. GLBTI is a more political gay portal with a search utility, directory, and
logo merchandise.
After a months-long remake (uff da), the wonderfully named MySoCalledGayLife.com is
back again. It's a pure queer portal site this time around, but still worth a visit. Welcome back.
Finally, if what you want is skin, GayDemon offers a huge collection of
porn sites of all queer varieties along with other gay sites (for when you've had enough of the other
stuff). For yet more skin, you might look to the lists on
Men On the Net, a longtime collector of those web
staples.
